Interview with Nikki20038

Hello everyone,

Today we have @Nikki20038 with me. She has claimed a ‘Watty Award’ this year and is a popular Teen Fiction writer on Wattpad.

Well, with the introductions out of the way, we can begin the torture, I mean, the interview process.

1. Why Teen Fiction? What made you choose to write in this genre?

Nikki: I guess I chose Teen Fiction because it was the easiest to relate to since I’m a teenager.

May: True. For me, I write NA (New Adult) because I am 24 and can relate to the characters of that age better than any other genre. But, upon occasion, I do end up reading YA(Young Adult) since that’s the genre I grew up with.

2. If you had a chance to step into the shoes of one of your characters, who would you pick and why?

Nikki: I would probably step into Macy Anderson’s shoes even though she’s a character like me but she’s a pro soccer and is with Sam Cahill *laughs*.

May: Humm…I would definitely avoid my Helena Hawthorn characters since they never have a good day. I guess I wouldn’t mind being in Isobel’s shoes from “Overexposed”. So far, she’s more or less having a normal time, but soon…soon things will get fun. *evil laugh*

3. Can you tell us a little bit about your journey as a writer?

Nikki: It was pretty overwhelming especially when my story hit one million views but there was also the pressure of updating from the readers once my story became more known on wattpad but it’s a pretty good journey so far.

May: I can’t imagine the pressure with 1M reads. I’m struggling here with 214k. I have to say, so far, the readers have been very understanding about the updating. I think they’ve gotten used to writers on Wattpad updating once a month.

4. Ice cream or pancakes?

Nikki: Could it be ice cream on pancakes haha. But I’d pick pancakes over ice cream.

May: I would probably go with ice cream here. I do see the appeal of ice cream on pan cakes… *daydreams* Yes, or melting vanilla ice cream on a hot chocolate brownie…

5. What kinds of books do you like to read? Any favourites?

Nikki: I read adventure and fantasy stories and my favourite writers are Percy Jackson and Harry Potter series by Rick Riordan and J.K Rowling.

May: I grew up with L.J. Smith and Darren Shan. In the later years it was: Cassandra Clare, Arthur Conan Doyle, Kalayna Price, and Mary Janice Davidson. I wish I could keep listing authors but I may be here a while.

6. Let’s get out of the normal and go beyond. Imagine you were kidnapped for ransom, who would you pick to be the other kidnaping victim to help you with the escape? This can be a fictional character or a real person.

Nikki: Oh my God, this question…I would probably want Percy Jackson because he would find a way to like knock out kidnappers unconscious and get us out. I actually laughed really hard at this question lol.

May: I’m glad I made you laugh so much. It’s what interview should be about – having fun. I would probably go with Jackie Chan. He would be really good at kicking their ass.

7. What advice would you give to Teen Fiction writers out there? Is there a particular winning formula to your stories?

Nikki: Uhhhh, honestly write what you want to write because it’s your story not anyone else’s. There isn’t really any winning formula. I guess if you want to be like a really famous writer, you have to be patient.

May: Patience in writing is what we have to learn that’s for sure. I think before I started writing, I would always be impatient. Still am in everything but the craft.

8. This question usually bugs me when I hear it, so I’ll ask you it *evil laugh*, where do you see yourself in five years?

Nikki: I guess I’ll see myself in university at the time.

May: Uni were the best years of my life. I truly enjoyed meeting new people and learning so many new things. One downside is the finals and midterms. Those things can kill souls. So, ready yourself by getting tons of comfort foods and cakes – or just learn mind control.

9. Summer or Winter?

Nikki: Summer because I get to play soccer haha

May: I have to agree on the summer. It’s freezing here right now. My fingers are numb.

10. And, finally, please tell us a bit about your ongoing projects and any other news you wish to share with the readers.

Nikki: Oh, by the time I finish, at least one of my ongoing stories I will be posting my other story “My Best Friend’s Crush”.

May: Hear that people? New story coming out from the lovely Nikki! Don’t forget to check it out.

I want to thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions today, Nikki. Now then, for anyone interested in her work, as always, the blurb to her book “The Bad Boy and The Tomboy” is below.

Macy Anderson is a seventeen year old teenager that plays soccer, hangs with the guys, can’t stand girls-except her best friend Jasmine and doesn’t know who Sam Cahill is. But when they unexpectedly meet it goes downhill and uphill from there.

Sam Cahill is the guy that skips classes- has a British accent but can play a mean game of soccer? Not to mention his cocky attitude and magnetic charm towards all the girls but Macy doesn’t seem to fall for that. He shows his moves and Macy sees a different guy under the leather exterior. With the occasional soccer, the guys, love and heart:

Hazel is what he calls her.

Jerk is what she calls him.

“I’m not exactly a bad boy. Sure I’ve been arrested a couple of times but I’m not a bad boy. Hell, I’m not even a player, love. I’m just Sam, Sam Cahill.”
